Shanghai's Pudong New Area expects to host 50 AI projects

(ECNS) - Fifty AI development projects are expected to settle in industrial parks in Pudong New Area of Shanghai, according to the 2019 World Artificial Intelligence Conference held in the metropolis. 

The projects include Huawei's first 5G innovation center and research institutes by leading companies including SAIC Motor, Alibaba Cloud and China Mobile. 

Liu Song, Alibaba's vice president, said the tech giant has a number of AI projects under application in Pudong District including those designed for traffic management, environmental protection and management of tourists in scenic areas. 

As well, the ultra HD video industry has been selected by Jinqiao industrial park as a main driver for industrial advancement through the extensive application of 5G mobile technology. 

Liu Xiaojie, general manager of an IT company, said Jinqiao is making greater efforts to become an industrial hub for ultra HD video. 

Pudong New Area aims to become a role model in China for development and application of AI. Data shows the area is home to 383 AI firms, one third of the total in the city. The number of researchers working at an AI island in Shanghai's Zhangjiang Science City is projected to rise to 8,000.
