(ECNS) - The Taipei Palace Museum and Chunghwa Telecom, a telecommunications company in Taiwan, announced a plan on Thursday to make the museum smart by applying 5G technology.

In the digital drive, an exhibition hall in the museum will be the first to offer 5G mobile Internet. Open to the public in November, the augmented hall will offer visitors the chance to interact with historical figures and cultural relics by wearing smart glasses.

Chunghwa Telecom Chairman Sheih Chi-mau said visitors will have a brand new experience when viewing the relics because information will pop up for them to read. Discussions on future plans include even more immersive experiences for visitors provided by new digital services.

Wu Mi-cha, director of Taipei Palace Museum, said he hopes the application of new technologies will help the museum keep pace in a rapidly changing world.

“Progress in technology is faster than we could have imagined, so we will make more effort,” said Wu. “The museum is mainly artistic and cultural, and we now wants to make strides by integrating technologies.”
