Qinghai sends more than 30 billion kilowatt-hours of green power to other regions in first 9 months
(ECNS) — Qinghai province in northwestern China sent 30.866 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to other regions in the first nine months of 2026, up 9.7% from a year earlier, with clean energy accounting for 98.1% of the total, State Grid Qinghai Electric Power Co. said Wednesday.
Clean energy contributed 30.28 billion kilowatt-hours of the electricity transmitted during the period.
By the end of September, Qinghai’s total installed power generation capacity had reached 87.4 gigawatts, of which 80.37 gigawatts, or 91.96%, came from clean energy. Installed capacity of new energy sources, including wind and solar power, stood at 63.96 gigawatts, accounting for 73.18% of the total.
From January to September, the province added 1.24 gigawatts of energy storage capacity, bringing its total to 4.51 gigawatts. Its energy storage facilities recorded 1,267 hours of charging and discharging, up 70 hours from a year earlier. New energy generation reached 51.72 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for 52.06% of the province’s total power generation.
Qinghai has also expanded the scale and reach of its green electricity and green certificate trading. In May, the province transmitted green electricity to Fujian for the first time, expanding the coverage of its outbound electricity supply to 23 provincial-level regions.
In June, Qinghai and Heilongjiang carried out China’s first cross-regional relay transmission of wind and solar power, using daytime solar power from Qinghai and nighttime wind power from Heilongjiang to provide a stable electricity supply to Beijing.
A three-year green electricity cooperation agreement between Qinghai and Shanghai also began implementation this year. Under the agreement, Qinghai will supply Shanghai with 4 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity annually from 2026 to 2028, totaling 12 billion kilowatt-hours.
Qinghai’s green certificate trading volume reached 13.67 million certificates, five times the figure from a year earlier.
