China begins construction of major offshore oil and gas project for Qatar
(ECNS) -- Construction of a major offshore oil and gas engineering project for Qatar’s Bul Hanine oilfield began on Monday in Qingdao, east China’s Shandong Province, according to Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd (COOEC).
Known as the Qatar BH EPIC project, the $4 billion contract is the largest international offshore oil and gas project undertaken by a Chinese company by value.
It involves more than 60 offshore facilities, 40 subsea pipelines and cables, platform modifications and removals.
The project will use over 130,000 metric tons of steel and employ digital technologies such as 3D modeling and engineering simulation to improve efficiency.
COOEC has expanded its global presence in recent years, securing record-high contracts in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and North America.
