Cambodia links KHQR with WeChat Pay for Chinese travelers
(ECNS) -- Chinese travelers in Cambodia can now use WeChat Pay to scan local KHQR codes for everyday purchases under a cross-border QR payment service launched Tuesday in Phnom Penh by the National Bank of Cambodia and WeChat Pay.
Under the first phase, WeChat Pay users can scan KHQR codes at Cambodian merchants to pay for dining, shopping, transportation, tourism and entertainment. KHQR is Cambodia’s QR payment standard.
The service also allows Cambodian merchants to accept payments from WeChat Pay users through their existing KHQR system without additional transaction fees.
Cambodia received 450,000 Chinese tourists in the first half of 2026. A pilot visa-free policy for Chinese citizens took effect on June 15. From then through Aug. 12, the number of Chinese visitors purchasing tickets to the Angkor Archaeological Park rose 13% from a year earlier.
