Yanji airport sees summer travel surge on routes to South Korea
(ECNS) -- Yanji Airport in northeast China's Jilin Province handled 230,300 passenger trips in July, a single-month record, the airport said Tuesday.
The airport added 700 flights during the summer travel season, up 104.1% year-on-year. It added six routes to South Korean destinations including Seoul, Busan, Cheongju, Daegu, Yangyang and Jeju.
In July, Yanji operated 668 flights to South Korea, with weekly flights reaching 162 and a single-day peak of 26. Daily passenger volume on South Korea routes hit a record high of 4,115. The airport ranked first in northeast China for passenger traffic on South Korean routes, while international passengers accounted for 44.8% of total traffic — the highest proportion among all Chinese airports.
The airport has coordinated with local tourism authorities and airlines to align routes with summer travel demand, focusing on cultural and border tours. It plans to adjust capacity and services for the second half of the summer season.
