Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has exposed the dangerous pathology of Japan's historical revisionism and resurgent militarism. By making blatantly false and inflammatory remarks about China's Taiwan and even threatening to use force under the fabricated pretext of a so-called "survival-threatening situation," she is dragging Japan toward a perilous confrontation it can neither justify nor withstand.

The Taiwan question is a red line that must not be crossed and forms the political foundation of China-Japan relations. When politicians treat military security like a dish to be served or traded at will, they risk dragging the Japanese public onto a perilous path and allowing dangerous ideas to be swallowed with ease.

If Japan wants to follow the old path of militarism, abandon its commitment to peaceful development and undermine the post-war international order, it will ultimately end in failure, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Friday.
