Comprehensive pilot zones for cross-border e-commerce in China increase to 165

(ECNS) -- Comprehensive pilot zones for cross-border e-commerce in China have increased to 165 after another 33 were approved by the State Council on Thursday.

The State Council said a new batch of cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones will be set up in 33 cities and regions like Langfang and Cangzhou in Hebei Province and Yuncheng in Shanxi Province.

A total of six batches of comprehensive pilot zones have been established from 2015 to 2022.

Data shows that the import volume of cross-border e-commerce reached 1.62 trillion yuan (about $0.23 trillion) in 2020 and1.92 trillion yuan in 2021.

According to Wang Shouwen, vice commerce minister of China, in the first eight months of 2022, cross-border e-commerce in China has presented a very good growth momentum.

Cross-border e-commerce is beneficial for the transformation of traditional foreign trade enterprises, said Ming Ming, chief economist of CITIC Securities.

Meanwhile, it will help foreign trade enterprises expand their overseas market amid COVID-19, said Ming, who added that this kind of commerce will also help Chinese enterprises establish their own brand image and boost China's foreign trade.
