(ECNS)--A 2-year-old Florida boy fatally shot his father in front of his young siblings after somehow finding his parents' unsecured handgun, according to media reports.  At least seven mass shootings happened across the country during the past weekend, leaving five dead and 27 injured.

A politically bipartisan group of 20 U.S. senators said Sunday they have reached agreement on tightening gun control laws in the United States. Under the tentative deal, a federal grant program would encourage states to implement red-flag laws that allow authorities to keep guns away from people found by a judge to represent a potential threat to themselves or others, while federal criminal background checks for gun buyers younger than 21 would include a mandatory search of juvenile justice and mental health records for the first time. However, many of the details in the plan are still unsettled, according media reports.

Due to the reality shaped by money politics and polarized politics, gun proliferation has been a persistent and deep-seated problem in the US, for which the American people have paid the ultimate price. The U.S. government should restrain the demon of gun violence and let the American people enjoy “democracy and human rights” free of gun violence. (John Lee)
