400,000DWT ore carrier berths at Zhanjiang Port

(ECNS) -- A 400,000DWT Very Large Ore Carrier (VLOC) flying the Marshall Islands flag berthed at Zhanjiang Port in Guangdong on Wednesday, carrying iron ore under maritime escort.

The vessel, Saham, measures 360 meters long and 65 meters wide, with a deck area equal to 55 basketball courts. Zhanjiang maritime authorities prepared safeguard plans including smart remote control, UAV patrols and escort vessels.

Temporary one-way traffic control was imposed, and navigation hazards were cleared to ensure safe entry.

Officials said the docking supports the stable development of Zhanjiang’s steel industry chain.
