Fuyao Glass to add new jobs in the U.S.

Chinese glass manufacturer Fuyao Glass is set to increase its investment in the U.S. and create 100 new jobs. It has also recently received a commendatory letter from local government in the U.S. state of Ohio for its contributions to the local job market.
Fuyao is a vivid example of how Chinese manufacturing companies are welcomed and supported by local U.S. governments for their contributions to the U.S. economy, despite the Trump administration’s efforts to crack down on made-in-China goods via tariffs and other means of protectionism.
This Chinese company will in 2020 invest about $46 million in its U.S. plant to update its manufacturing facilities, the company told the Global Times, but it did not provide further details. It will also add 100 new jobs to its current 2,300-employee team.
Ohio government officials also presented the Chinese manufacturer with a commendatory letter, Fuyao said in a statement published on its official WeChat account.
Ohio governor Mike DeWine said in the letter that Fuyao’s investment in the U.S. has created a large number of job opportunities, stimulated local economic growth and exerted a notable impact on the development of the Miami Valley, according to the WeChat statement.
DeWine also said that he hopes the success will drive more Chinese companies to invest in Ohio.
Fuyao has directly created more than 2,300 jobs in the U.S., said Cao Dewang, chairman of Fuyao Glass, adding that Chinese and U.S. companies should not abandon the trust they have built up through long-term investment due to a temporary situation.
Fuyao first shot to fame in the U.S. following the release of the U.S. documentary American Factory, which depicted the conflicts that arose between Chinese and U.S. employees at the plant.
The company has been steadily increasing the pace of its investment in the U.S.. That, together with the support it has received from local U.S. authorities, is a good example of the business-cooperation trend that exists between China and the U.S., despite efforts from the U.S. government to suppress China’s manufacturing sector.
The Trump administration has ordered U.S. firms to move production out of China and return to the U.S.
