Trailblazing Shenzhen offers 30 sq km of land to attract global investors

(ECNS) -- Shenzhen, once a trailblazer in China's reform and opening-up, made a rare move on Tuesday by offering 30 square kilometers of land to attract global investors and facilitate industrial development. 

The southern tech hub, close to Hong Kong, said the land included an area of 25 square kilometers inside the city, and another five-square kilometers in the Shenzhen-Shanwei special cooperation zone. The largest plot, about 4.8 square kilometers, is located in Guangming Science Town, designated to host S&T innovation, research institutes and startups. 

Nie Xinping, chief of Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission, said the land will be used as a platform to promote innovation and technology breakthroughs, a hub of newly emerged industries, and high-tech incubator in fields including integrated circuits, core industrial software, and medical imaging equipment. 

Shenzhen has been playing a key role in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In September, the city was given a new role -- building a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics, according to a document issued by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council. 

By 2025, Shenzhen will have become one of the leading cities in the world in terms of economic strength and quality development. Its research and development input, industrial innovation capacity, and quality of its public services and ecological environment will be first-rate globally, according to the document.
