(ECNS) - Didi Bike, the bikeshare service from China's biggest ride-hailing company Didi Chuxing, and Mobike, now a division of China's largest provider of on-demand online services Meituan Dianping, have both agreed to cut the number of new bikes placed on Beijing’s streets by half.

According to the Beijing Municipal Transportation Commission, the two bikeshare services will also remove non-operational bikes scattered across Beijing’s districts by the end of the year.

Didi Bike will replace all the bikes by Bluegogo, which was taken over by the ride-hailing giant, with its own brand known as Qingju.

Meituan Dianping plans to replace the orange Mobike-branded bikes with yellow Meituan bicycles.

According to a regulation released last September, Beijing decided to cap the total number of shared bikes at 1.91 million. It also required companies to update information on the number of bikes and their locations on a government Internet platform.
