Lancang-Mekong Cooperation
澜代表澜沧江,湄代表湄公河.澜湄合作即"澜沧江—湄公河合作"机制的简称,机制成员包括中国、缅甸、老挝、泰国、柬埔寨、越南.同众多严肃的外交词汇相比,"澜湄"从一开始就透着一股亲和劲儿,让人不禁想到水果 "蓝莓".
Lancang represents the Lancang River, Mekong means the Mekong River. Lancang-Mekong cooperation is short for the Lancang-Mekong River cooperation mechanism, which includes China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam as members. Compared with many serious diplomatic words, "Lancang-Mekong" is down-to-earth from the beginning and brings to mind a popular food "blueberry."
澜沧江—湄公河地区资源丰富,3.26亿的流域民众、5900亿美元的GDP总量、近7%的年均经济增速,使澜湄地区成为亚洲乃至全球最具发展潜力的地区之一.但由于历史原因,湄公河次区域发展起步较晚,经济水平落后于周边其他国家和地区,为尽快缩小发展差距,湄公河各国都将发展作为第一要务.
With abundant resources, a drainage area of 795,000 square kilometers where lives 326 million people, a GDP of 590 billion USD and an annual economic growth rate of 7%, the Lancang-Mekong region is now one of the most promising regions in Asia and the world at large. However, due to the historical reasons, the Mekong sub-regional development started relatively late.
