The total cargo throughput via the ship locks at the Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest hydropower project, exceeded 154 million metric tons in 2024. In 2011, the annual cargo throughput via the Three Gorges lock exceeded 100 million metric tons for the first time, reaching the designed passing capacity 19 years in advance. Since 2014, the annual volume of the Three Gorges lock has exceeded 100 million metric tons for 11 consecutive years.
