Hong Kong style yuanyang milk tea

Yuanyang milk tea is a unique type of milk tea of Hong Kong.

Yuanyang, also known as mandarin ducks, are regarded as a symbol representing lovers for they often appear in couples. Yuanyang milk tea gets its name because it combines both coffee and milk tea in the same drink.

Often sold in local cafes and restaurants, the beverage also reflects the combination of Western and Eastern culture in Hong Kong.

There is no specific requirements as to what type of tea or coffee you use.

Ingredients:

Water 400ml

2 bags of black tea (about 20g)

Instant coffee 10g

Fresh milk 250ml

Sugar 10g

Steps:

1. Boil half of the water and put the tea bags in the pot. Heat for 1 to 2 minutes. You may also place the tea bag into a cup and pour in boiled water, but you need to wait for a little longer for that.

2. Pour the milk into the tea.

3. Boil the other half of the water and use instant coffee to make coffee.

4. Mix the milk tea and coffee and add in sugar. Serve.

Brown sugar ginger milk tea

Brown sugar ginger tea is a folk prescription from China, and is believed to be an effective beverage for warming the stomach and body. By turning it into a milk tea, I hope you'll find this traditional drink more palatable.

Ingredients:

Water 400ml

Fresh milk 250ml

1 bag of black tea (about 10g)

Ginger 5g

Brown sugar 50g

Steps:

1. Chop the ginger into small pieces.

2. Boil the water with the ginger pieces. Heat for about 5 minutes after the water begins boiling.

3. Turn off the heat, and place the tea bag into the water. Cover and leave for about 2 minutes.

4. Add in brown sugar and milk. Stir a bit and serve.

Though ingredient amounts are based on my personal experience, you don't have to follow everything word for word. Feel free to adjustment things according to your own tastes and preferences, depending if you like things a bit more bitter or sweeter.
