Guitar & Flute Duo from Greece

A guitar and flute duo from Greece, Eva Fampas and Amalia Kountouri, will take the audience on a music journey to the Aegean Sea.

Their April 19 concert will present Pietro Locatelli's Sonata G Dur, Jan Truhlar's Sonatina Semplice op. 18, flute solo "Night in the Forest" by Nickos Harizanos, Jacques Ibert's Entr'acte, guitar solo "The Trip" by George Mavroedes and "Greek Dance Sousta" by Dimitri Fampas and others.

Fampas, who plays guitar, was born in Athens to a musical family and started playing guitar at a very young age, learning from her father Dimitri Fampas, a famous Greek composer, guitarist and professor. She first appeared in concert at the age of 12 with her father's guitar school.

Regarded as one of the best guitarists in Europe, Fampas is noted for her musicality, passion and virtuosity. She has performed hundreds of recitals and concerts around the world with great success and appeared as a guitar soloists with orchestras like the Symphony Orchestra of Russia, the Kalamaria Symphony Orchestra and others. Her repertoire features many works by Greek composers as well as music from Baroque to contemporary. Currently she serves as the artistic director of the International Guitar Days of Lafkos.

Kountouri was born in Athens as well and studied flute with Janina Batko and acquired her diploma in 1992. She is a member of several chamber music groups and also plays Brazilian bossa nova and jazz. In 2009 she started collaborating with pianist Myrto Akrivou. She teaches the flute and chamber music in En Organois and Ethniko conservatories in Athens.
