World classics grace Chinese art scene

It's truly an art feast! Masterpieces including works by Pablo Picasso and Marcel Duchamp graced the Chinese metropolitan of Shanghai.

The exhibition is presented by the Pompidou Center in Paris, one of the world's leading contemporary art museums. It is the first time the Pompidou Center has showcased its collections in the Chinese mainland.

Alain Seban, president of The Pompidou Center, said, "We have brought almost all of our core exhibits to Shanghai this time, many of them were just taken off from the shelves in the Pompidous. We have gathered famous French curators as well as talents Chinese curators to work together on the theme Surrealism. We want to copy our success in Paris to Shanghai."

Opened in December of 2012, the exhibition capped off another exciting year for art in China and across the globe.

Here in Beijing, the New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art also has brought their first ever exhibition in China in collaboration with the National Museum of China. The exhibition runs through the evolution of western artistic achievements and features works by Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet.

With the theme of "nature", the pieces range from painting, sculpture, photography and more.

Thomas P. Campbell, director of Metropolitan Museum of Art, said, "This exhibition shows the great imagination and creativity of. They will see many similarities and many differences to the Chinese tradition of art."

The exhibitions have all proven to be really successful. The Chinese audience can embrace the richness and diversity of western art right here at home."
