Tour of Confucius Institutes in Europe

Holidays are very much about giving. And one group who never ceases to do so all year round are teachers. In recent years, with the spread of Chinese culture, Confucius Institutes have sprung up all over the world. After eight years of development many Confucius institutes have begun to take root in their host cities. We see how teachers there give their gifts of knowledge.

This is the sound of Chinese culture in Europe. The teachers at Lorand University are giving their students a personal encounter in rich and creative ways.

Lorand is Hungary's top university with a history of more than 370 years. The six teachers at the Confucius institute here have their schedules packed as more and more people are showing an interest in learning. For them, it is a very rewarding experience.

Teacher Ding Yang said, "There was once after class, when an elderly person ran up to me and demanded that I promise him to always be a teacher. Hearing something like that makes all the hard preparations feel worth it."

Other motivations manifest by themselves. By the end of the courses many students learned not only to write, but even sing in Chinese.

Hao Qingxin, director of Confucius Institute of Lorand University, said, "The teachers are really loved here, students are still pressing on after more than a year's study."

And many of the teachers here are also certain to press on in serving as cultural mentors and ambassadors.
