Modern jewelry wows audience

A new exhibition of modern jewelry at the Museum of the China Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing aims to change people's perceptions. It's attracted more than a dozen top jewelry designers and their contemporary designs are an eye-opener.

Don't these look delicious? That's because they are, these rings are made of candy.

Contemporary jewelry seeks to break the mould of just using gold, silver and precious stones. This ring here is made mostly of resin with a mix of human hair.

The designers are also focusing on colours, designs and symbolic meaning rather than practical decoration and display of wealth.

Professor Teng Fei, China Central Academy of Fine Arts, said, "I think a fine piece of jewelry is an art, it not only decorates but is also inspiring and is a collectible. So it has multiple values."

Another great example of inspiring jewelry is this made by a designer from Germany.

Designers also showed their environmental concerns with these fish shaped items. The sparking creativity is on show until December the 10th.
