Photo exhibition of China's northern city opens at UN

A photo exhibition focused on cultural and environmental protection of China's northern city of Zhang Jiakou opened at UN Monday.

To observe the United Nations Day, which falls on Oct. 24, the exhibition, dubbed "Great Landscape, Green Home", displays more than 80 photos showing the unique landscape of the city and beautiful natural scenery, its culture and ancient traditions, as well as festivities and modern infrastructure.

The purpose of the exhibition is to showcase the achievements of Zhang Jiakou city in protecting natural environment and building a harmonious society, expanding its influence in the world, said the organizers.

Located in the northwest of Hebei Province in China, adjacent to the capital city of Beijing to the southeast, Zhang Jiakou covers an area of 37,000 square kilometers and has a population of 4.66 million.

The exhibition, co-sponsored by the UN Chinese Book Club and Culture Building Committee of Zhang Jiakou, will end on Oct. 26.
