At least 1,500 professional gastronomes are expected to be attracted to Macao to taste delicacies from different regions at the third China Catering Expo, scheduled for later this month, organizers said on Wednesday.

The expo, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) and the Secretariat for Economy and Finance of the Macao Special Administrative Region government, will open on Sep. 21 and last until Sept. 23.

With an exhibition area of 35,000 square meters, the three-day fair has prepared 1,100 exhibition booths for restaurants and catering enterprises from the Chinese mainland and overseas.

Top brands such as China Quanjude (Group) Co., Ltd., and global restaurant giant Yum! Brands, Inc., as well as other noted restaurants from the United States, France and Italy, will participate, according to the MOC.

As well as cooking shows and contests, the exhibition will feature nine forums on investment opportunities in the catering industry, food safety and related solutions, and trade policy of food materials.

China's catering industry has boomed in recent years as Chinese appetites for dining have developed rapidly.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the country's catering industry posted a combined revenue of 1.08 trillion yuan (170.2 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half of 2012, up 13.2 percent from the previous year.
