Beijing opens the 'New Italian Design 2.0' event. Preparations are ongoing for this fall's Design Week 2012, where Italy's Milan will serve as this year's Guest City. But first, this week, Milan's Triennale Design Museum brought Italy's newest designs to China's capital city.

Led by renowned designer Andrea Branzi, "The New Italian Design 2.0" made its first appearance in Asia here in Beijing. More than 300 works from over 100 Italian designers are on display.

Arturo Dell'Acqua Bellavitis, director of Triennale Design Museum, said, "The works were meticulously selected from over 600 works. They represent the newest trend of Italian design. They can be used in everyday life and are environment-friendly. Like the multi-storage shelf, it is made of recycling material. And with this device, you can just put the plants inside and water them once a month and leave them there."

"The New Italian Design 2.0' is presented by Milan's Triennale Design Museum. The exhibition brings works from various categories like industrial products, graphic design, jewelry and more.

Sun Qun, vice director of BJDW Organizing Committee, said, "Italy is famous for furniture, automobiles and couture. But at this exhibition, we have abundant designs beyond those categories. It's a 2.0 exhibition of Italian design."

The project is part of a creative collaboration programme aiming to enhance cultural exchange and a creative dialogue between China and Italy. The exhibition runs until August 20th. It will then head to Taiwan, its next stop on an Asian tour.
