(ECNS) — All Chinese nationals trapped in the severe flooding in southern Thailand have been rescued with the assistance of the Chinese Consulate-General in Songkhla, the consulate said on Friday.

According to the consulate, it has received requests for assistance from 65 Chinese citizens since the flooding began. The consulate has worked closely with various parties to carry out rescue operations, including dispatching rescue boats, providing food supplies and issuing timely information to those affected.

Among them, some have arrived at local relief centers, some have begun their journey back to China, and others have returned to their residences to begin post-disaster recovery work.

Continuous rainfall has hit multiple provinces in southern Thailand, with Songkhla, Pattani and Phatthalung among the worst affected. Songkhla Province has suffered most, as Hat Yai — a major economic hub — experienced its worst flooding in 300 years.

The Thai government declared a state of emergency in Songkhla on Tuesday.
