(ECNS) -- Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Chief Executive John Lee continued his visit to Qatar, leading a business delegation composed of entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland on Monday.

Government departments, enterprises, and institutions from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, and Qatar announced 35 memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements, covering areas including economic cooperation, investment, technology, legal collaboration, as well as the development of finance, banking, and capital markets.

In the afternoon, Lee announced that Hong Kong and Qatar had largely concluded negotiations on an agreement on investment promotion and protection. They would begin discussions on mutual recognition arrangements for their respective authorized economic operator programs, aiming to create a more favorable environment for investment and the flow of goods between both sides.

On the same day, Lee also visited Hamad International Airport in Doha to learn about the airport's autonomous vehicle pilot program. The project involves the participation of UISEE, a Chinese enterprise, marking the first application of autonomous driving technology at an airport in the Middle East.

Lee stated that Hong Kong would continue to collaborate with Qatar to seize the tremendous opportunities brought by the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
