(ECNS) -- China Southern Power Grid (Yunnan) announced on Tuesday that it has applied humanoid robots to infrastructure construction operations, becoming the first in China to use humanoid robots in power grid construction.
At the construction site of the 220kV Ji'an substation in south China's Yunnan Province, a humanoid robot carrying a backpack walked slowly toward the wire-laying operation site. Upon receiving instructions from technicians, it handed over tools, then entered the substation bay to tighten grounding bolts on the disconnector mechanism box. It then used an aerial work platform vehicle to install spacer bars on diversion lines.
According to the company, power grid construction involves high-risk environments such as high altitudes, mountainous areas, and deep wells, with a high volume of repetitive manual labor. Targeting challenges and bottlenecks in infrastructure development, the company has explored using humanoid robots to meet the needs of various construction scenarios.
Looking ahead, the company plans to further promote the application of innovative "robot plus" products across diverse power grid construction environments, fostering new quality productive forces and supporting the development of a new-type power system.
