(ECNS) -- Chinese influencer Sima Nan, whose real name is Yu Li, is under investigation for suspected tax evasion, according to Beijing Municipal Tax Service on Friday.
The investigation revealed that between 2019 and 2023, he evaded taxes amounting to 4.6243 million yuan (about $637,992) by concealing income and falsifying returns, including personal income and value-added tax.
Additionally, his Beijing-based entertainment planning firm avoided paying 753,200 yuan in corporate income tax by understating costs and improperly benefiting from small and micro business tax incentives.
In accordance with relevant laws and regulations, Beijing Municipal Tax Service has collected 9.2694 million yuan in back taxes, penalties, and fines from the influencer and his company, all of which have been deposited.
A spokesperson from the Service stated that tax authorities would continue to strengthen supervision, strictly investigate violations to ensure a fair and just tax system.
