SW China sees 166% growth in Thai travelers after one-year visa-free policy

(ECNS) -- Since the implementation of the China-Thailand mutual visa exemption policy on March 1, 2024, Kunming Changshui International Airport has recorded 230,300 inbound and outbound Thai travelers, up 166.15 percent year-on-year, according to the Kunming Immigration Inspection Station.

Among these travelers, 109,200 visitors entered China visa-free.

Borpho Kriangkrai, a tour leader from Bangkok, wrapped up a six-day trip with a group of 42 travelers, departing from Kunming Changshui International Airport on Sunday. 

His group explored Yunnan’s iconic destinations, including Dali, Lijiang, and Shangri-La, under the visa-free policy..

Over the past year, the Kunming Immigration Inspection Station has accurately predicted peak travel periods, and opened additional inspection lanes to ensure efficient customs clearance.
