(ECNS) --A netizen claimed that the girl depicted in a rotten photo held by a martyr might be her father's second aunt, according to Hunan local media Xiaoxiang Morning Post.

On April 10, the faded picture was found in a mirror held by a martyr against his chest. The soldier, who diedin Xuecun Village of Hebei Province during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, has grabbed online attention, with an effort made to determine his origin.

After the girl’s face became recognizable thanks to image restoration, a netizen provided a thread to her possible identity.

“When my father saw the picture on Friday, he was very excited, saying it’s highly possible that the martyr was his uncle,” the netizen said. “The information is pretty much consistent with my father’s uncle, who took six copper coins when he left.”

She added that the girl on the photo might be her father’s late second aunt, or the martyr’s second sister. She later posted a photo online, saying “This is my father’s fourth aunt, who is 97 years old now. She is very nervousabout the DNA test.”

Netizens put the two photos together, and found they have similar mouths and noses.

More work is in the progress to find the families of all 80 plus unknown martyrs.
