(ECNS) - A system set up by the Ministry of Public Security has helped find 2,980 missing children since its launch in May 2016, the ministry said on Thursday.

It announced that the fourth version of platform Tuanyuan, or reunion, has been released.

By May 15, Tuanyuan had published information on 3,053 missing children, of whom 2,980 were later found, a success rate of 97.6 percent.

According to records, 1,705 children had reportedly run away from home, 424 were lost on roads, 140 died as a result of drowning or other accidents, and 48 were rescued from child traffickers.

Tuanyuan was developed with the support of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba. The platform can be applied to multiple websites and apps. On China's social media platform Weibo, Tuanyuan has more than 840,000 followers.
