(ECNS) — He Kebin, an academician at China Engineering Academy, said the Ministry of Ecological Environment has piloted a project to monitor emissions from diesel-powered trucks in Tangshan City, Hebei Province.

Diesel vehicles used by large companies are considered a major source of air pollution in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and neighboring areas, according to experts.

Hao Jiming, another CEA academician, said heavy trucks used by a coking plant in Xingtai City, which lies on the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei air passageway, was a major cause of air pollution.

The trucks do not buy diesel at standard fuel stations and that the quality is not stable as drivers only care about prices, said Hao.

He also gave an example of how transportation trucks polluted the air in Anyang City of Henan Province. He said the local Anyang Iron and Steel Group uses trucks to transport five tons of materials needed to produce each ton of iron.
