(ECNS) -- Regulators in Beijing's Xicheng District refuted an online rumor that singers needed qualification certificates to perform at bars in Houhai, a popular lake area known for its nightlife, Beijing News reported on Friday.
During a joint law-enforcement inspection of the area, three bars were ordered to stop illegal commercial performances because they had not obtained licenses to do so, the paper said.
The inspectors did not check whether the singers involved had vocational certificates, it was added.
According to an official with the Culture Commission in Xicheng District, the State Council had issued a rule on management of commercial performances and the Ministry of Culture had released regulations on its implementation. But neither had authorized law enforcement to check whether singers possessed qualification certificates.
A notification of the rules was handed out to about 170 bars in Houhai in April. The commission's recent inspection was jointly launched with four other departments, and aimed at ensuring commercial performances held at bars and other venues conformed to laws and regulations, explained the official.
