(ECNS) -- Tokyo Zoo's new-born panda cub has received 322,581 suggested names from the public by Thursday, an official one to be chosen in late September when she is 100 days old.

The name choices were more than the 273,000 panda cub Tong Tong received in 1986, hitting a new record.

Giant panda mom Shin Shin gave birth to a cub on June 12, which was the zoo's first in five years. It launched an activity on July 28 to solicit a name for the female baby panda, Japanese media said.

Among the names, 249,382 were sent via internet, 39,577 by post, while 33,622 were received at the zoo itself.

A name selection committee will choose 10 possibilities from the 100 most-repeated names, with the final one to be decided by the Tokyo metropolitan government, according to the report.
