(ECNS) -- Wang Jianlin, chairman of Dalian Wanda Group, said the company plans to launch two theme parks in countries that form part of the Belt and Road Initiative during 2017.

Wanda has set its eye on "going global", Wang told China News Service while attending the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing on Sunday. [Special coverage]

He said Wanda's projects are based mainly in North America and West Europe and less in countries along Belt and Road routes.

After China proposed the initiative, efforts to coordinate policies and support funds as well as facilitate trade and investment are beginning to show results, thus providing a guarantee for Chinese companies seeking growth on the international market, according to Wang.

He also said countries along the Belt and Road route are mostly developing with a big populations and large demographic dividends while tourism infrastructure remains underdeveloped with room for huge investment.

European countries along the road are known for their developed economies and complete infrastructure but their large-scale tourism facilities were built decades ago and now need an upgrade, which means business opportunities.

Wang told China Central Television that private companies are facing more opportunities thanks to the Belt and Road project. He saw great growth potential in sectors of tourism, film and television, catering and sports.

Wang achieved viral status online in 2016 after he said it's a "tiny goal" to make just 100 million yuan.
