(ECNS) -- A college student's beautiful drawings with common ballpoint pens have become a hot topic on the internet.

Qu Xianliang, an undergraduate at the College of Fine Arts and Design of Xinyang Normal University in Henan Province, said he started drawing with the pens in his freshman year.

"When I was in my senior year of high school, I saw some ballpoint pen paintings for the first time. I soon fell in love with them and hoped I could do it myself," Qu said as he prepared for his own art exhibition. "Some seniors in the college helped me."

In his spare time at night, Qu would stay alone and draw. His favorite work is a red rose he has drawn. It is so meticulous that people can almost see each line of the flower. Qu said he spent about a week to finish it.

"Inspiration for my work comes mostly from daily life," Qu said. "For example, movies, pets and figures from games can all be my subjects."

Drawing with ballpoint pens requires the artist to be very patient and familiar with the fundamentals of painting, Qu said. A minor mistake may ruin the work as it cannot be fixed.

The artist said he hopes the exhibition would be a beautiful culmination of his life in college.
