(ECNS) -- Many goods, including some daily items available on online shopping platforms, are featured on a list of prohibited delivery goods in a newly-released regulation.
The new rules, jointly released by three departments including the State Post Bureau, list three detailed categories of goods not allowed to be sent by express delivery: goods that can endanger national security or threaten social order; explosive, inflammable, toxic and radiometric materials; and other goods forbidden by the law.
The rules also increase the categories of goods that cannot be delivered by express to 188 from an original 58. Besides dangerous goods including guns, knives, and illegal publications, which are publicly known, they also set conditions for sending parcels including cigarettes and Chinese liquor, or baijiu, which are available at some online shop platforms, including taobao, Tmall and JD.com.
Only two types of cigarettes, and liquor with an alcohol strength below 56 percent, are allowed to be sent by express. In addition, products such as mobile phones can be delivered by land transport, but cannot be delivered by air, according to the regulation.
Express companies breaking the rules may face a penalty of 500,000 yuan ($72,713).
Officials with the consumer association urged people to familiarize themselves with the rules and avoid buying articles that are prohibited from being delivered.
