(ECNS) -- The dire situation at a zoo in Zhuzhou City, Central China's Hunan Province, has left many in shock, according to news portal rednet.cn.
Few people, including locals, even know the existence of Zhuzhou Zoo located in a small corner at Shennong Park. The zoo says it houses 20 types of animals and charges 15 yuan ($2.2) for a ticket.
Miss Su, who visited the zoo during the Spring Festival holiday, said most facilities were rusty and it stank while animals were all in poor condition.
She said an injured monkey was even unable to chew peanuts, a skinny tiger seemed to be starving, and some ostriches had lost all their feathers.
A video clip shared on microblogging site Weibo showed a monkey shivering in a shabby room. News about the zoo also went viral too.
However, an official from Zhuzhou Forestry Bureau said nothing abnormal was found in the zoo after an investigation.
The official added that people may have different opinions about hygiene and animal health at the zoo.
