(ECNS) -- A new survey shows that 95.2 percent of respondents will teach their parents how to use a smartphone app to send hongbao, the festive red envelopes containing gift money.

People traditionally exchange hongbao during Spring Festival, China's Lunar New Year. A growing number of Internet companies have introduced digital hongbao to fuel the use of mobile payments. And with millions of younger people frantically tapping on their mobile phone screens, the less tech-savvy generation often feel neglected, reported Yangtze Evening News.

The survey by a wealth management forum found that more than half of respondents said their parents lacked the knowledge to utilize online versions of hongbao.

Although 57 percent said their parents showed interest in learning to use digital hongbao, only 48.3 percent offered them assistance.

The paper commented that the close interaction between children and parents during the holiday can narrow the generation gap caused by technology, and help create a more harmonious family atmosphere.
