(ECNS) -- Netizens suspect two giant pandas did not receive proper treatment before their sudden deaths in Shanghai Wild Animal Park.

The park announced that two pandas, Guo Guo and her cub Hua Sheng (Peanut), died of disease on Dec. 26 and Dec. 31, respectively. Guo Guo, 21, arrived at the park last year and later gave birth to Hua Sheng.

The statement said Guo Guo showed symptoms of fever, vomiting and diarrhea on Dec. 19 and died one week later. The main cause of death was diagnosed as acute pancreatitis as well as multiple organ failure.

Hua Sheng showed similar symptoms four days after its mother got sick. The cub, less than six-months old and the ninth offspring of Guo Guo, was found to suffer from intestinal necrosis.

The statement received wild attention on microblogging site Weibo with more than 250,000 page views in just two hours after its release.

A netizen said the park continued putting the baby bear on show on Dec. 24 even though it was already sick. Others urged a thorough investigation of the case.
