(ECNS) -- A schoolboy has won praise for helping rescue a 7-year-old girl who got stuck in a window’s protective barrier about 3 meters above ground in the eastern city of Yichun in Jiangxi Province.
Zeng Tao, an officer from the local fire department in Yichun, said the girl was playing in her grandparent's home, slipped from the balcony and was trapped by the barrier. Two sixth-graders playing nearby heard the girl's call for help and rushed to assist.
A video clip shows one boy standing on the roof of a steel sheet structure to hold the girl on his shoulder while the other on the ground assured her not to be afraid until the arrival of a rescue crew 20 minutes later.
The girl was evacuated to safety with the help of firefighters, then the boy used a rope to descend to the ground. Both of the child rescuers left before firefighters could express their thanks.
A fireman said in the video that the boy was so brave that he came to help regardless of the danger.
The two boys were later found to be Zhang Kaihao and Peng Haoming from Luzhou Primary School. A deputy school head said Zhang, who climbed the structure to help the girl, is vice captain of the school football team and always ready to help others.
The 12-year-old student lives with his aunt, who is a teacher, and didn't mention his heroic act helping a girl when he returned home.
