(ECNS) -- A man has promised to clean up the graffiti he wrote at 13 scenic spots in Beijing following online outcries.
The tourist painted his name Chen Zhicheng in large, red Chinese characters at 13 places in a rock-themed attraction in Beijing's Fangshan District. He also wrote proverbs at some sites.
The 53-year-old said he was in a bad mood for family reasons recently and it was unlikely that he would make another visit, so he left graffiti at the scenic spots.
It took about six people one day to clean up 13 places defaced by Chen, but the marks left are still visible, according to an official at the scenic spot in Huangshandian Village.
Chen has called the village to apologize, promising to clean up the messages. Chen admitted he left marks in other scenic spots too, but said he will also remove them.
Chen also called for other hikers to protect the environment.
