(ECNS) -- Police in Dali, Yunan Province recently arrested a man surnamed Wang who dressed up like a ghost to harass and threaten his neighbor for nearly seven months, Yunnan Television reports.
The neighbor, a woman surnamed Yang, recently exposed her suffering online, including horrifying pictures from surveillance camera footage showing the man wearing a ghost mask.
The video of one incident showed that at about 4 a.m, a long-haired, white-masked man dressed in white a robe and red shoe covers appeared in front of Yang's door and wiped excrement he carried with him on her door, according to Beijing Youth Daily.
The victim said she had been harassed since January, when she found the keyhole on her door was blocked, along with a note criticizing her for "destroying another family", Yunnan TV reported.
Yang thought it was a mistake or joke, but things went worse as the door to her apartment was splashed with urine and wiped with excrement in the following months until mid-July.
Her surveillance camera showed the offender was a strange man of about 40 years old. When the man discovered the camera, he shifted his harassment from daytime to midnight.
Yang said the incidents continued even though she reported them to police. Her community's property management company also sent security guards to patrol the area, but never found the man.
On July 25, Yang discovered the surveillance camera had been smashed and decided to expose her troubles online.
On August 2, local police confirmed that reports posted online were true.
Wang, 43, from Beijing's Haidian district, will be detained for 20 days, it was added.
The man claimed that he often heard knocks at night and was not able to fall sleep. He thought his neighbor Yang purposely made the noise.
