Embassy Charge d'affaires Qi Han has held urgent talks with Italian diplomatic officials and expressed concern about the confrontation that broke out during an inspection.

Qi said the Chinese community, an important group of immigrants in Italy, "has made positive contributions to the country's economic and social development for a long time".

He urged Italian authorities to pay close attention to the reasonable concerns of Chineseand investigate the case as soon as possible.

The legitimate rights and safety of Chinese immigrants in Italy should be guaranteed, and their living and working environment safeguarded, said the official.

Earlier, an Italian media report said police officers encountered uncooperative overseas Chinese in a routine inspection of the factory, and clashed with an elderly man carrying a baby, which angered the Chinese and led to a standoff.
