(ECNS) – Beijing's traffic management authority said it was unaware of a rumor that buses nationwide have officially become havens for lost children, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

A message saying buses in the public transport system across China will take on the responsibility of protecting lost children was widely circulated on China's popular social networking app WeChat.

"Please tell your children this: Don't panic when you cannot find your parents outside; hop on any bus and tell the driver about your trouble, and the driver will contact your family," says the message.

Beijing's traffic management authority said the cities' bus crews would certainly call the police as soon as possible if they encountered children in need. However, anyone has the obligation to do so, it stressed.
