(ECNS) -- Beijing will make a dramatic effort to promote Peking Opera in schools, the Beijing News reported.

A Peking Opera textbook for junior middle school students, compiled by the Beijing Guocui Art Inheritance and Promotion Association and a textbook committee, has been tried out in the city's Fengtai District, and will be introduced to all schools in the capital city.

Textbooks for elementary students are also being prepared, according to the association.

The association cooperated with the People's Education Press in 2015 to publish books for middle school students about this traditional Chinese theatre, which combines music, vocal performance, mime, dance, and acrobatics.

The committee later compiled reference materials for teachers, including instruction suggestions and other teaching resources, to further promote the popularity of Peking Opera.

Beijing's move comes after the Ministry of Education declared support for the education of traditional culture in schools, including the introduction of drama to students.
