(ECNS) – A total of 200 students from 200 of Beijing's elementary and middle schools began a two-day training session on soccer reporting Sunday morning, as the city makes efforts to promote soccer culture and boost the sport's development in schools, Beijing News reported.

The city's education authority said schools will set up their own soccer reporting center and that the young reporters may also get the opportunity to participate in news coverage of international soccer games in the future.

"We have soccer class in school and I'm also fond of playing soccer," said Gou Kexin, one of the trainees. She told the paper she looked forward to participating in covering soccer games following the training session.

The municipal education authority also plans to organize soccer events during winter and summer vacations, including referee training sessions, to involve more children in the sport in various ways, the paper said.
