(ECNS) -- The number of Chinese tourists who plan to travel abroad during the May Day holiday has increased by 130 percent over last year, with remarkable growth in European and U.S. destinations, Chinese-language newspaper The Mirror reported.

Data from the tourism site LY.com shows that Chinese travelers who booked European routes grew by 91 percent for the three-day holiday from April 30 to May 2, while planned trips to the U.S. surged by 85 percent.

Trips to Dubai and South Africa increased by 60 percent year-on-year. A significant rise was also registered in journeys to Japan and South Korea.

The data also shows that 30 percent of tourists booked airline tickets 10 days prior to their journeys, and nearly 53 percent of those traveling by train purchased tickets five days before their trip, the newspaper reported.
