(ECNS) -- Online sales of salmon sashimi could be prohibited due to a high risk of bacterial or viral contamination, the Beijing Youth Daily reported on Thursday.

An officer from the Beijing Food and Drug Administration vowed to be strict with online food sales, specifically with regards to cold food processing, storage and distribution in order to control risks.

New online food supervision and administration regulations will be launched, which stipulate that food marketers should not sell unpacked deli or semi-finished food online, the report said.

In addition, those who have not obtained a food handling permit should not engage in food production or online marketing, as supply chains and logistics might create food safety risks, it was added.

According to the new regulation, all online food marketers are required to register and third-party food trading platforms should evaluate their qualifications for business, said Liu Guobin, director of the food circulation department at the Beijing Food and Drug Administration.

In addition to the above requirements, online food operators should display their store names, contacts, addresses, business licenses and Catering Service Licenses in a prominent place, Liu added.
