(ECNS) -- China denied on Wednesday that it sought to rent the Geoge Island from the Republic of Korea (ROK).
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei was responding to reports that China had sought to rent the Geoge Island from ROK and make it a foothold to extend eastward the "String of Pearls" sea lane.
"We have never heard of such a plan. The relevant report is not worth commenting," Hong said at Wednesday's press conference.
