(ECNS) -- Chinese travelers may have the highest dependence on smartphones, according to a new study, which shows that 87 percent of those polled consider the device necessary on trips.

TripAdvisor has unveiled the results of its TripBarometer study, forecasting key travel trends for 2016. The study is based on an analysis of about 44,000 survey responses from travelers and the hotel sector worldwide.

Three-quarters of global travelers won't leave home without their smartphones, which supersede toiletries as the number one most essential item to take on a trip, the study said, adding that the figure is 12 percent higher among Chinese tourists.

About 83 percent of Chinese respondents led the list by saying they would do something they haven't tried yet, which is travel alone, followed by cruise holidays and adventure travel.

The study also showed that 41 percent of Chinese travelers will buy one extra suitcase for shopping, while only 30 percent of global travelers would do so.

According to the study, one in three global travelers plan to spend more on their trips in 2016, and the main reason is that they and their families deserve it; 49 percent of respondents and 61 percent of Chinese respondents cited this reason.
